About Department

Introduction : Economics Department in Pauri campus of HNB Garhwal University was setup in year 1971, the same year in which the University came into existence with its three campuses at Srinagar, Pauri and Tehri. From 1971 the Economics department in Pauri campus provided under graduate course while in 1974 the department initiated the Post Graduate program in Economics. Economics department in the campus was commenced in the Pauri Campus with the aim of becoming a major centre of teaching, learning and research along with acting as a source of skill development to support employment generation potential among the academicians. In the course of three decades the department has developed and expanded its vision not only primarily focusing on regional aspects but also exploring the global and concerning issues related to Indian economy. The department has contributed in the areas of regional development, banking, finance, agriculture, industry, Labour, women studies and environmental economics. The department provides departmental library along with the computer facilities to the students and research scholars of the department. The students of the department are also provided the central library facilities along with the internet accessibility in the campus. The faculty members of the department have helped in enriching the pool of knowledge through their active involvement in various research based activities such as active participation at international, national and regional seminars and conferences further through conducting various research projects and through various research publications. The department further inculcates the research vision and potential among the students through involving them in various department activities related to learning and research so that the collective effort of faculty member, students and research scholars of the department can effectively contribute in enhancing the quality of education and research further disseminating its output gains for the betterment of the society and economy.
