B.G.R. Campus Pauri Garhwal

General Information of the Campus

Bejawada Gopal Reddy (BGR) Campus

Pauri campus, situated in the serene landscapes of Pauri, Garhwal, has a rich history dating back to its establishment as a Government Degree College in 1971. Initially offering seven undergraduate courses in subjects such as Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Economics, Political Science, Geography, and History, the institution aimed to cater to the educational needs of the region. The year 1972 marked a significant expansion with the introduction of undergraduate courses in science subjects, including Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. This expansion not only broadened the academic offerings but also paved the way for a more comprehensive educational experience for students interested in scientific pursuits.

The educational landscape of Uttarakhand witnessed further development in 1973 with the establishment of two new universities, Kumaun and Garhwal, by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. This initiative aimed to decentralize higher education and promote academic excellence across different regions of the state. In 1974, recognizing the growing demand for advanced education, the college was accorded the status of a Postgraduate institution. This milestone was marked by the introduction of Postgraduate courses in subjects such as Hindi, Economics, and Geography, reflecting the institution's commitment to academic excellence and scholarly pursuits.

The legal education spectrum at Pauri campus saw a significant enhancement in 1976 with the commencement of L.L.B. course, providing aspiring lawyers with a platform to pursue their legal studies and contribute to the legal fraternity.

Continuing its trajectory of academic expansion, 1977 witnessed the introduction of Home Science as a degree-level subject, along with the elevation of four other subjects - Political Science, History, English, and Mathematics - to the postgraduate level. This diversification of academic offerings aimed to cater to the evolving interests and aspirations of students while fostering interdisciplinary learning and research. In the same year, the campus was designated as the Bejawada Gopal Reddy BGR Campus, recognizing famous Indian freedom fighter, writer and politician Bejawada Gopal Reddy (1907 – 1997), further solidifying its position as a premier educational institution in the region.

The subsequent years, spanning from 1984 to 1991, witnessed a significant milestone with the introduction of Postgraduate courses in all science subjects, including Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. This expansion not only enriched the academic curriculum but also provided students with opportunities for advanced study and research in scientific disciplines. The academic landscape of B. Gopal Reddy Campus continued to evolve, with the introduction of Statistics and Geology as undergraduate subjects during the academic year 2003-04. These additions further diversified the academic offerings, catering to the diverse interests and career aspirations of students. In 2006, the institution embarked on a new frontier with the introduction of self-financed vocational courses, including LL.M., providing students with specialized knowledge and skills in legal studies. The year 2008 marked another milestone with the commencement of B.Ed. classes as a self-financed course, catering to the growing demand for quality teacher education and professional development in the region. In the academic session 2016-17, BGR Campus expanded its academic horizons with the introduction of a new faculty of Commerce, offering a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) program as a regular course of the university. This initiative aimed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the dynamic field of commerce and business. Furthermore, research endeavors have been an integral part of the academic fabric of BGR Campus, with research work initiated in each Postgraduate department since 1977. This emphasis on research underscores the institution's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and knowledge creation in diverse fields of study.
