About the Library
HNB Garhwal University Library system was established in the year 1973 as a central facility to fulfill the information requirements of the academic community of the university. The Central Library of the University has been shifted to its new permanent Central Library building and started functioning since 1989. The Central Library building is having the total Plinth area of 44,700 sq ft (approx) and which includes newly separate fully air conditioned reading hall having 150 users seating capacity. The Central Library is also having ramp facility for differently abled users. A part from the Central Library at Birla Campus, a well equipped library at Chauras Campus has been established in the year 2003 which is having a very good collection, especially on the subjects like science and technology and management. Both the campuses (Pauri and Tehri) of University are also having the library with an excellent collection of learning resources. The main function of library includes–collection development of knowledge resources, technical processing, organization, retrieval and dissemination of information to the end users.
The Central Library a three-storey building at Birla campus is having a reading facility for the capacity for 350 users at a time. A part from the Central Library, all the Campuses encompass well developed libraries and reasonably good facilities to cater the information needs of users.

Rules and Regulations
- Entry to all campus libraries is restricted only to the authorized members of the University with Membership Card. Other users (outsiders) can consult the library for research purposes after producing letter of introduction from Supervisor/ Head of Deptt./ Institution to the University Librarian.
- Membership Card is compulsory for the getting to the library.
- Enter your name and sign in the register, kept at the entrance counter, before entry and exit.
- Photography, smoking, sleeping, use of cell phone and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.
- No library material can be taken out from the library without permission.
- Users should not mark, underline, dog-ear mark, write, tear pages or damages the library documents.
- Readers should maintain peace in the library and should not disturb other users in any way.
- Readers should not spit in any part of the library.
- Dissertation/Theses cannot be xeroxed.
- Newspapers and magazines must be read only in the library on specific tables and should not be taken to other reading areas.
- The Librarian reserves the right to suspend/cancel the membership privileges of any member found misbehaving with the library staff or with any other indecent behaviour. Such a member is also liable to be expelled from the library by the order of the Librarian.

Books Borrowing
Book borrowing facility is available to all faculty, research scholars, students and staffs of the university. Only general/text books will be issued, but reference books, theses & dissertations, loose/bound issues of periodicals and such other reference materials are only for consultation within library. Borrowers must satisfy themselves about the physical condition of the books before borrowing otherwise, they will be held responsible for any damage or mutilation noticed later or at the time of returning.

Remote Access Software (KNIMBUS): All the e-resources available in the library can also be accessed remotely. This facility is available to all the users through KNIMBUS platform, where all the students and faculties can access e-books, e-journals, databases and other resources like – more than 85,000 open access e-books and databases purchased by the library, 18,000 open access e-journals and more than 16,000 multi media contents from their desk and home as well.
