The department was initially started with the under graduate courses in 1973. Later on Postgraduate course (M. Sc. Zoology) was started in 1984-85 with specialization in Entomology. The department has been a nucleus for Postgraduate studies and research in the field of Entomology, Fisheries, Aquatic Biology, Wildlife Conservation and Molecular Ecology. Students are enrolled here for D.Phil. in Zoology and Biotechnology.
