The Department was established in 1999 in the H. N. B. Garhwal University, Srinagar, with the approval of the State government and UGC. The Department has emerged as one of the leading Institution offering AICTE approved three year full time Master of Computer Applications (MCA) post graduate & four year full time undergraduate B.Tech. courses.
- MCA Three Year (Six Semester) Post Graduate Course
- B.Tech. Computer Science & Engineering Four Year (Eight Semester) Under Graduate Course
The Department has well furnished laboratories. The well experienced faculty members of the Department are exposed to current state-of-art and are imparting education to the students in some advanced area of Computer Science & Engineering besides core subjects. The passed out batches of MCA courses are already serving various organizations, briefing name and pride to the University.
LAB CONFIGURATION
The course supports lab facility in UNIX, C programming, data structures, DBMS, OOPS, graphics, networking, JAVA programming, MIS, web technology, client server architecture, etc. The labs are equipped with rich software like C/C++, JAVA, MS Visual Studio, MS Visual Studio.Net, Oracle 10g for Windows, Developer 2000 etc, which run over the following platforms:
· Windows XP/2000/2003 server (professional)
· Red Hat Linux 9.0
· Sun Solaris 7.0
· SCO UNIX
SUN SOLARIS LAB
The Solaris lab supports 24 terminals. The lab supports programming and projects based on software development, distributed systems, networking on UNIX and windows platform.
LINUX LAB
The Linux with six terminals has practical sessions related to operating system including Inter Process Communication (IPC), compressed file system, usage of shared memory and shell programming.
NETWORKING AND INTERNET LAB
The networking lab with 100 mbps LAN is configured with three 24-port Ethernet switches having an extended star topology for the nodes. Internet is provided by a 128 kbps VSAT-TDMA linked along with a separate broad band link.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LAB
The department is planning to develop a R&D lab equipped with high quality image processing digital camera, LCD, hardware equipments, networking tools and software dedicated to students and researches for their research projects.
PROJECTS & SEMINARS
The projects and seminars are included in the courses of the study. Students have to present seminars, on the topics related to the latest technological developments, state-of-art of new technologies, etc; in their respective disciplines. Each final year student has to complete a working project of academic and industrial utility, with a core concept suiting his/ her discipline and interest. Students are guided to complete their projects in house or at some other organizations.
PLACEMENTS
Training & Placements (T&P) cell in the Department, apart from regular placement liaisons with the industries, organizes a series of career counseling sessions and tests right in the first year of MCA and second year for engineering courses, to help students to opt for career options based upon their respective interests, competencies and industrial demands.
The T&P cell also arranges one-semester Project Internship for MCA final year students in leading organizations of India like BEL, BHEL, BSNL, CMC, C-DOT, DRDO, EIL, HCL, ITI, ISRO, HAL ,Honda CL, NTPC, ONGC, Satyam SAIL, SIL, Tata Infotech, TCS, Usha telephone, VSNL, NIC, NRSA,L & T, Wipro, Indian Oil, Reliance, etc. to name a few.
